Information for Staff

IDs and Security

  • Employees are assigned a Network Username when they begin employment. The Network Username is used to access the wired and wireless networks, university email, and some departmental systems. You will need to establish a password for your Network Username in myaccount.sc.edu.
  • Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is required to access systems on the university network that store Personal Identifiable Information (PII). You will need to take an extra step to confirm your identity when you log in to university systems such as Banner, PeopleSoft, my.sc.edu, and more. The university uses Duo Security to provide MFA services. The easiest way to use MFA is to download the free Duo Security app on your smartphone.
  • Employees are welcome to connect personal devices to the campus wired or wireless networks. However, current antivirus software must be installed on all computers that connect to the network. Free antivirus software is available to all employees in my.sc.edu
  • Security and privacy information, helpful videos, and tips are available at Security.

IT Services

  • University Email is automatically provided to faculty. The university uses Microsoft Exchange, and you may access your email using MS Outlook or through the online web portal Office 365 online
  • You can connect to either the wired or wireless network to access your email, departmental services, and the Internet. Wireless access is available in all buildings and many outdoor spaces on campus. Employees are asked to refrain from connecting to the uscguest sites network and instead use eduroam, which is a secure network. In addition, there are more connection points for the eduroam network across campus, meaning your Internet speed and ease of connectivity is higher. To connect, enter your Network Username followed by @ds.sc.edu, then enter your password.
  • DoIT maintains and supports the campus telephone system and provides telephone equipment and support for analog, digital, and Voice over IP (VoIP) telephones.
  • A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is available for secure access to university resources including share drives, databases, and select systems when you are away from campus. Free VPN software can be downloaded from my.sc.edu
  • There are numerous software programs available at reduced or no cost for your use on university-owned computers. Software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Qualtrics, and much more are available.

Employee Discounts

  • Apple and Dell provide educational discounts to university employees and students.
  • AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon offer discounts to university employees on monthly mobile phone service. Visit your provider’s local retail store or website for more information.
