How does FERPA apply to the University of South Carolina?

Educational records are official records, such as grades, Social Security number, driver’s license number or account balance, that can be directly related to an identifiable student. Since the University of South Carolina falls under FERPA legislation, you are required to maintain the confidentiality of students' educational records.

All school officials must have a legitimate educational interest in order to access a student's educational record. You should not discuss students’ educational records with other faculty or staff members unless their official responsibilities identify a legitimate educational interest.
