Program Description:

We have excellent Fitzgerald and Hemingway collections in USC's Rare Books Department, and we are coming up on the 100 year anniversary of when Hemingway and Fitzgerald were in Paris (1925/2025). This is a Maymester course in Paris to coincide with these events. In addition to Fitzgerald and Hemingway, in also reading Gertrude Stein and James Baldwin, there is ample opportunity to broaden the course to include the African American diaspora in Paris as well as the vibrant LGBTQ+ world of Paris in the ‘20s.

Paris also affords greater cultural heritage opportunities, and spending a few days at places such as The Louvre, Musée d'Orsay, Montmartre, Shakespeare and Company will help students relate to these authors and reflect on their own experiences in Paris.

Application Deadline: March 1
