Program Description:

This is an experiential learning course that introduces students to international accounting practices and the diversity that exists in financial reporting worldwide. Students will visit financial institutions and firms located in Singapore, a global financial hub in Southeast Asia, and interact with various stakeholders in an accounting context (managers, auditors, investors, regulators, and academics).

Much of what is taught in the classroom prepares students to be preparers of accounting information. This course exposes students to the other perspectives of an accounting environment. Students will learn about the factors needed to ensure proper functioning of major financial markets, including the need for good governance, regulatory foresight, and investor engagement. Students will also learn about emerging trends in the accounting landscape, such as sustainability reporting, the use of blockchain in audit, and data analytics.
