This course provides participants with the opportunity to gain insights into the interdependence
of business and culture in the dynamic economic setting of Vietnam with a focus on
emerging markets and international entrepreneurship. Students will directly experience
this setting in visits to companies and organizations involving presentations and
discussions with managers, directors and executives within the organizations. Participants
will visit a range of industries in the manufacturing and service sectors as well
institutions of higher education. Each meeting will involve discussions with leaders
and management to learn about Vietnam’s specific dimensions of investment and the
corresponding enterprise.
The class will explore two key urban environments of Vietnam - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh
City- to gain insight into their diverse social and cultural dimensions. Students
will also spend two days in the rural setting of the Mekong Delta to experience Vietnam’s
cultural and environmental diversity. Special emphasis for the course is given to
issues of integration, innovation, transition and transformation related to economic
development, and emerging industries in Vietnam and their relationship to investment
and international trade.
