About this Fellowship

The BSA funds a number of fellowships to promote inquiry and research in books and other textual artifacts in both traditional and emerging formats.

Deadlines are typically in October, but be sure to check the competition website for the current cycle’s deadline.

Eligible topics may concentrate on books and documents in any field, but should focus on the book or manuscript (the physical object) as historical evidence. Such topics may include establishing a text or studying the history of book production, publication, distribution, collecting, or reading.


Award Value

Fellowships range from $3,000 to $6,000, with most being $3,000.
