About this Fellowship
Provides aerospace and aviation industry internships to undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds. Fellows commit to creating a community engagement project. Internships take place in the summer with a host company for a minimum of 10 weeks.
The Zed Factor Fellowship Program is for any student who:
Hails from an historically excluded community or background. Historical exclusion refers to communities who have experienced historical discrimination in the aerospace sector, including but not limited to Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), women and gender minorities, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
Has a passion for aerospace.
Shows leadership potential.
Demonstrates technical or non-technical skills.
Is a full-time undergraduate student and has completed 30+ college credit hours by the time of application. Eligibility extends to all students enrolled in higher education including Community Colleges and Universities who will attain a bachelor’s degree no earlier than the fall of the current competition year.
Deadlines are typically in early January, but be sure to check the competition website for the current cycle’s deadline.
Award Value
Fellows receive a paid internship, relocation stipend, and a stipend for an aerospace-related community service project of their choosing post-fellowship, in addition to having travel covered to the fellowship summit.

SMART (Science, Math, and Research for Transformation) Scholarship
Provides an opportunity for students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM disciplines) to receive a full scholarship and increase the number of civilian scientists and engineers working at Department of War laboratories. Full tuition and education related fees, stipend of $25,000-38,000 depending on degree pursued, paid summer internships, health insurance and book allowance, mentoring, and employment placement with the DoW after graduation.
