The ALA is committed to promoting and advancing the librarian profession. To demonstrate this commitment, the ALA and its units provide more than $300,000 annually for study in a master's degree in library and information studies from an ALA accredited program, or for a master's degree with a specialty in school librarianship that meets the ALA curriculum guidelines for a Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accredited unit.
Students can apply for a variety of scholarships through the single online application hosted by the ALA Scholarship Program.
Deadlines are typically in early March. See program page for exact dates and application details. Applications and reference forms (which must be submitted on-line) are available beginning in September. Instructions and general information remain available year round.

Available to graduating seniors, graduate students and recent alumni to conduct research, pursue advanced study, practice a creative art or undertake teaching assistantships for one year in a foreign country. Supports one year of research, study, or teaching English abroad. Travel and living expenses provided.
This award assists students pursuing graduate studies in the information sciences, library science, or closely related field, that advance the frontiers of digital information and technology. $5000 annually for two years for doctoral students and $2500 annually for two years for master's students.
