The National Student Exchange program provides a unique chance to study at one of nearly 200 institutions in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories up to one year. If you are interested in this program, participation is coordinated through the National Student Exchange Office.
National Student Exchange programs are not offered during the summer sessions unless you are an outgoing student.
Guidelines for Receiving Aid for National Student Exchange
To be a National Student Exchange student, you must complete the Special Enrollment Request Form to receive approval from your academic advisor, your dean, or the chair of your department. This ensures that the classes taken at the other school will transfer to your program of study here at USC. Our office does not process financial aid for students who are not enrolled in a degree-seeking program at USC.
Outgoing Students and Fee Payment
The University of South Carolina is a Plan B only school. Outgoing USC students will pay tuition and fees to USC. Room, meals, and other applicable fees are paid at the host school. For financial aid purposes, students in this program are treated as if they are enrolled at USC. You can use all your financial aid at USC except Federal Work-Study.

The National Student Exchange office will notify us to prepare your financial aid.
The financial aid office will need a copy of the Special Enrollment Request Form. Please submit this electronically through the National Student Exchange Upload Form via Dynamic Forms. Visit our Forms page to select the appropriate year.
Students will use the normal fee payment process on Self Service Carolina.
