Whether you're in your classroom, office, or in your role as a first-gen mentor, we want to provide you with resources to support your engagements with USC first-gen students.

First-Gen Module

Supporting First-generation College Students: Best Practices for Engaging Faculty & StaffThrough our partnership with FirstGen Forward, we are excited to offer USC faculty and staff this online training to show you the many ways you can enrich the college experience of a first-generation student.

Duration: 60 minutes, self-paced  
Don't forget to complete step 2 once you have completed the module.

Become a first-gen mentor for Fall 2025!

Join us in building a community of belonging and success at USC—because your guidance as a first-gen mentor can inspire the leaders of tomorrow.

What you can expect as a mentor...

Your commitment to your mentee takes place once a week for at least one hour over six weeks (September 15-October 27). Here are the steps you'll take to become a mentor:

  • Complete the mentor interest form by August 15!
  • Attend orientation - Once you have submitted the interest form you will be emailed a link to sign up for orientation.
  • Join us at the Fall 2025 First-Gen Mentor Program Kick-off on September 3 at 6:30 PM. Mentors and mentees will come together to learn more about the program and will see how to create a profile and navigate Mentorship Hub.
  • Meet with your assigned student mentee(s) for at least 1 hour weekly during the 6-week program (in-person or virtually).

Complete the mentor interest form by Aug. 15
