April Barnes has been named executive director for University Housing at the University of South Carolina in the division of Student Affairs and Academic Support.
Beginning January 14, 2019 Barnes will lead University Housing.
She will be responsible for Administrative Services, Assessment, Business Operations, Construction and Renovation, Facility Operations, Information Technology Services, and Residence Life.
"We are excited to bring someone of April’s caliber to the University of South Carolina," said Kirsten Kennedy, associate vice president for student housing and well being. April comes with fourteen years of professional student affairs experience, including supervision of housing and residence life, student activities, multicultural student affairs, and first-year programs. Her vast experience will help shape the future of University Housing at Carolina.
Barnes comes to the University of South Carolina most recently from Eastern Kentucky University where she served as Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life.
April has a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership, both from the University of North Dakota. She is ABD for a Doctor of Education from Eastern Kentucky University. She has been active in the Association of College and University Housing Officers International, serving on the Research Committee and the Program Committee since 2016.
