International House at Maxcy

  • Student discussion over tea

International Discussions

Residents take part in conversations about important international and cultural topics and foster cross-cultural dialogue.

Weekly Tea Time

Enjoy an hour of conversation and delicious tea. We sample a different tea from around the world each week and discuss a range of global and political topics. Plus, we invite local and national artists, politicians, and humanitarians to join our conversation and share their perspective.

Book Club

Two former Maxcy students, Ore Oluwole and Sade Erinfolami, had a great idea: everyone should read the same book so we can gather to discuss the issues and themes it presents. The book club has been an incredible success and is often standing room only. Most recently, students discussed Ta-Nahesi Coates' Between the World and Me, which examines issues of culture, history and race in America.

Passport Playlist Radio Show

Each week we invite an international guest to create and share a playlist of artists from their home country on WUSC 90.5 FM and HD-1 Columbia. Between sets, we discuss their life and culture in their home country. We've explored music from Scotland, Barbados, Hong Kong, Estonia, Latvia and many other locations. Music is a fantastic way to learn about other cultures and languages.

My freshman year at USC, I stayed at the International House at Maxcy College, and I'm really looking forward to staying there again. While there, I took part in many cultural activities that Maxcy has to offer, such as Mandarin conversation hour and tea time. I'm currently studying abroad in Hong Kong and coming back to USC and staying at such a cultural place will make it feel as though I never left.
