Move In Day

Nerves, excitement and heat highlight move-in days at South Carolina.  The preparation is over and now it is time to get your room ready to call home.

Moving In

Arrive at your building at your scheduled time and date as selected in the housing portal at my.sc.edu.  Scheduling is set to prevent traffic jams and long elevator waits. If you arrive outside of your scheduled time, our staff will not allow you to move until your scheduled day and time.

For information on student postal services visit the Student Mail Center online.

Details regarding traffic patterns and important traffic and parking locations is available through our Traveling for Move In page.

Traffic On Campus

USCPD and University Housing understand that students have a lot to move in, however due to parking garages, hills and other obstacles on campus please do not bring large box trucks, trailers, car toppers and recreational vehicles for move in.  USCPD and parking attendants will not allow these vehicles into traffic patterns in and around campus on move in day.

Groups bringing multiple cars for move in should bring car one through the unloading process and then find a parking place.  Switch your to your second car to bing through the unloading process.

Campus has been divided into multiple zones to assist guests and new students with finding their traffic pattern.  Your building zone is located on the back page of the move in guide or can be found on the building move in schedule.  Once you arrive in the general campus area follow the traffic signs to your building unloading traffic pattern.

Checking In

You can pick up your key at your residence hall on Move-In Day. You
will need your Carolina Card and move in ticket to pick up your keys
and yes, you will have to get your key. Mom and Dad can’t do that
for you!
If you arrive to campus after Monday, August 21, you will need to call the Resident Assistant on duty number that will be located on the front door of each residence hall to get checked in.

Most residents will be given a key at check-in to access their room.
However, residents of Women’s Quad, Rutledge, Pinckney/Legare,
820 Henderson St. and Patterson Hall will access their room with
their CarolinaCard and a 4-digit PIN. If you live in Women’s Quad,
Rutledge, Pinckney/Legare, 820 Henderson St. or Patterson Hall,
you’ll receive instructions during check-in about how to access your
room.
