Whether an employee is separating from the university to pursue exciting new opportunities,
or they are leaving involuntarily, it is the manager's responsibility to ensure that
process is conducted smoothly and with sensitivity.
There are a variety of reasons that employees separate from the university. Some circumstances
are cause for celebration, such as those employees who are eagerly entering retirement
after decades of service. Others, however, may have had their position eliminated
due to a reduction in force.
Regardless of the circumstances, managers must be equipped with the knowledge and
skills to lead employees through this transition.
