In-person instruction to resume this fall

Today, President Caslen announced that face-to-face classes will resume in Fall 2020. This means that you will need to be present in Columbia, SC to begin classes on August 20, 2020.

The University's Future Planning Group is currently working hard to take every available precaution so we can all meet in-person again come August. The University's Future Planning Group is currently working hard to take every available precaution so we can all meet in-person again come August. We are taking a measured response to mitigate risk and have made the following decisions about our Columbia campus schedule. The Future Planning Group is continuing to examine the potential impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on UofSC past the 2020 summer session. Please see the official university statement for full details on UofSC's plans.

What this means for your visa status:

  • All international students need to complete the Immigration Check-In Form so that ISS can be informed of your status and follow up with you if necessary. The deadline to submit this form is May 15, 2020.
  • Outside the U.S. with expired visa: If you are currently outside of the U.S. with an expired F-1 or J-1 visa, you will likely find significant visa delays. Please check with your local U.S. consulate to confirm visa appointment availability. Let ISS know your status using the Immigration Record Check-In Form.
  • Outside the U.S. with valid visa: If you are currently outside of the U.S. and have a valid F-1 or J-1 visa and a valid I-20 or DS-2019, our hope is that you will be able to re-enter the U.S. without significant issues. Please start exploring return flights, travel warnings and restrictions, etc. in order to prepare for your Fall 2020 return. Let ISS know your status using the Immigration Record Check-In Form.
  • Inside the U.S.: If you are currently in the U.S., then great! We would still like to hear from you. Let ISS know your status using the Immigration Record Check-In Form.
