Background

As Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education, Weldon serves on the senior leadership team of the university providing strategic and operational guidance on all matters related to graduate education. She works with student organizations, faculty, graduate directors, department chairs, other deans and executive officers to ensure sustained high-quality programs leading to all graduate and professional degrees. She helps shape the agenda and meeting of the Graduate Council and oversees any annual reporting focused on the state of graduate education. And she is charged with implementing the elements of the university’s strategic plan that focus on graduate education.

Weldon received her B.A. in French and English from Furman University and her Ph.D. in Linguistics from The Ohio State University. She holds a joint appointment in the English Department and the Linguistics Program, where she has taught both undergraduate and graduate courses in Linguistics since 2000. From 2017 to 2020, Weldon served as Associate Dean for Diversity, Interdisciplinary Programs, and Social Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences. She served in the Office of the Provost as interim Chief Diversity Officer from March to June of 2020. On May 1, 2022, Weldon assumed her current role as Dean of the Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education, after serving in the interim role since in January of 2021.
