Special Initiatives

The Office of the Provost is committed to developing a diverse array of university-wide programs for faculty, students and staff. The special initiatives directly reflect the Office of the Provost's academic priorities. 

Presidential Fellows Program

USC's most prestigious university-wide award for promise of excellence at the graduate level.

USC Connect

Comprehensive learning initiative that supports all students in enhancing their Carolina education by connecting academics and beyond the classroom experiences.

Grace Jordan McFadden Professors Program

Recruits and prepares under represented minorities to become college and university professors. The initiative aims to promote and increase diversity in the professoriate.

Carolina Leadership Initiative (CLI)

Helps students develop the motivation and skills to make a positive difference in their local communities, throughout the state of South Carolina, and around our nation and world.

Coordinating Office of Community Engagement and Service

A central coordinating portal through which faculty, staff, students and those external to the campus can enhance their current community engagement and service activities.

Faculty Replenishment Hiring Initiative (FRI)

Provides funding to hire assistant and associate professors as individual faculty members and as part of inter- or intra-disciplinary clusters of faculty on the USC Columbia campus.

Global Carolina

An important component of the university's international mission is to provide students with the knowledge and cultural awareness to be responsible and successful citizens in today's globally integrated world.

Graduate with Leadership Distinction

Students graduating with leadership distinction demonstrate extensive, purposeful engagement beyond the classroom, and are formally honored for the broader scope of their achievements.

Provost Internal Grant Programs

The Office of the Provost has established several competitive grant programs to support faculty development through scholarship, research and creative activities.

Rule of Law Collaborative

Committed to the development of rule of law as a discipline, the identification of theoretical and research-based applications in the field, and the refinement of policies relating to rule of law.

SEC Academic Leadership Development Program (ALDP)

Established by the Southeastern Conference Academic Consortium, the program is designed to help develop the leadership skills of tenured faculty on SEC campuses who have demonstrated exceptional ability and leadership promise. 

Women's Leadership Institute (WLI)

The Women's Leadership Institute is designed for faculty, staff and graduate students from South Carolina institutions of higher education who are interested in the advancement and success of women in leadership roles.
