Director of Education Abroad Office

The University of South Carolina invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Education Abroad Office (EAO). This position is open to tenured faculty members at the level of associate or above or professional-track faculty with at least 3 years of full-time appointments in their academic unit. The time/effort commitment is up to 12 month/100% but is negotiable. 

Reporting directly to and working collaboratively with the Vice Provost/Director of Global Carolina, this position will lead the Education Abroad Office, serve on a rotational basis in the on-call emergency response team for education abroad students, review and approve international academic agreements, develop, revise, and implement university policies regarding international affairs, and chair the Overseas Program Approval Program and Student International Travel Oversight Committee.  The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Office of the Provost and Deans of the colleges and schools to develop and promote international programs for domestic graduate, professional, and undergraduate students through exchange agreements, third party providers, and faculty-led programs.  The director will form an international faculty advisory committee whose charge will be to promote international research and education at the University of South Carolina.  The Director of Education Abroad Office will guide the formation of robust focused international partnerships, involving student and faculty exchanges, dual degrees, and research collaborations, with high-quality universities across the world. The Director will work closely and collaboratively with the International Student Services Office, the International Accelerator Program and Shorelight, English Program for Internationals, and the Office of International Scholars. 

The successful applicant will have experience with international initiatives, budget oversight, management of staff, and working with faculty. This position will require independence, a vision of what it means to be a global university, and cultural awareness and sensitivity.   All applicants should discuss with their academic unit head their interest in this position which is limited to a term of 3 years (with the possibility of renewal for one more term upon mutual agreement) with specific discussion of the transition out of and back into the responsibilities in the academic unit.  

The Director of the Education Abroad Office and Global Initiatives is expected to participate in national meetings related to international initiatives, host international visitors to campus, and travel internationally as part of an international strategic plan.  

Each candidate should submit a letter of application containing a brief statement of experience in academic/higher education leadership and international initiatives, a vision statement for the international endeavors of the University of South Carolina (2 pages), curriculum vita, and contact information for at least three references (internal and/or external).
