Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and a member of the Council of Academic Deans, the Dean of the Graduate School is the chief administrator of the School and oversees 129 master’s/specialist, 62 doctoral and 42 certificate programs, including 55 programs with online delivery; several scholarly initiatives including the award-winning Presidential Fellows program and professional development for graduate students. The position description will be posted when available. The Dean is expected to advocate for graduate students and graduate education more broadly within the university and the local and professional community. In support of the university’s goals, the Dean will support and facilitate greater engagement in research and scholarship for graduate students. The Dean will supervise the School’s budget; lead the recruitment and retention of professional staff; and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion especially through the recruitment of graduate students.
Candidates should have outstanding records of leadership and management in complex institutions. An earned doctorate and a record of university teaching, scholarly and creative activity that merits appointment to the rank of professor with tenure in any academic unit in the University program is required. All candidates must have experience effecting change; knowledge of education research, practice, and policy; an entrepreneurial instinct; an inclination to be welcoming and inclusive; and a capacity to nurture local, regional, and national networks and relationships.
