Quackenbush Architects + Planners with Perkins + Will earned the Honor award for new
construction for their work on University of South Carolina’s Center for Health and
Well-Being from the American Institute of Architects, South Carolina chapter. Honor
is the highest design award conferred. The annual AIASC awards recognize the best
architecture in the region with a focus on projects that exemplify vision, creativity
and design innovation. The awards ceremony took place on September 26, 2019, in Columbia,
SC.
The Center for Health and Well-Being received high marks for interior and exterior
design; intentional biophilic design elements; sustainability; creating a campus center
around wellness and health; and setting a high bar for student health centers nationwide.
The jury for the AIASC awards included jury chair Cheryl Morgan, FAIA, emerita professor
of architecture at Auburn University; and jurors Jay Pigford, AIA, partner, ArchitectureWorks;
Alex Krumdieck, director Urban Studio and principal at Krumdieck A + I; and Tammy
Cohen, AIA, president CCR Architecture & Interiors.

and Well-Being is more than simply a new innovative and inviting structure. It represents
UofSC’s commitment to student success. Our focus on health and well-being means we
strive daily to ensure students succeed academically and develop lifelong healthy
habits,” said Dr. Deborah Beck, Executive Director of Student Health Services.
