Peer Leader Jobs

Peer leaders are trained through the College Reading and Learning Association International Training Certification to provide quality assistance to enrolled University of South Carolina students and to empower them to be independent learners.

Application for Fall 2023 Has Closed 

Pending how staffing needs may change, there may be a limited recruitment process that will take place in July 2023.

  • March 13th: Application for Fall 2023 opens
  • March 28th: Application for Fall 2023 closes at 11:59pm
  • April 3rd-April 13th: Interviews for Peer Leader Positions
  • April 13th: Last day for recommendation forms to be submitted
  • April 17th-24th: Peer Leader Invitations sent on a rolling basis
  1. Application submitted via Handshake by March 28th, 2023.
  2. All applicants must receive one recommendation submitted on their behalf by a USC-Columbia faculty/staff member or current supervisor to move forward in the recruitment process. The recommender must complete the recommendation form no later than April 13th, 2023 at 11:59pm.
    • The recommendation form must be completed by a USC-Columbia faculty member if the applicant is applying for the Peer Tutor, Peer Writing Tutor, or Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader positions. 
  3. In order to be hired by the University of South Carolina, Peer Leader candidates must have original documentation in their possession to complete the Employment Elligibility Verification (I-9) Form. These are non-negotiable expectations, as they adhere to federal guidelines. Failure to obtain and produce these documents by May 6th, 2023 may affect a candidate's status in the recruitment process.

Academic Engagement Peer Consultant (AEPC)

AEPCs assist with the SophoMORE Year Initiative, the Junior Year Experience, Transfer Student Success, and faculty-student interaction programs such as Mutual Expectations.

Peer Consultant (PC)

PC's meet 1-on-1 with students in Success Consultations to discuss academic strategies and co-create a plan to maximize the student's potential for success.

Peer Tutor

Peer Tutors facilitate drop-in tutoring, as well as 1-on-1 tutoring appointments with students who may be struggling with a specific course.

Peer Writing Tutor

Peer Writing Tutors can help students at any step of the writing process via drop-in or 1-on-1 appointments. They are experienced with lab reports, research papers, rhetorical analysis, presentations, close reading assignments, creative writing, speeches, and public speaking.

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader

SI Leaders are paid to sit in on classes that they have already taken and performed well in so that they can take notes and host weekly group study sessions for their peers in the class.
