Peer Financial Consultant (PFC)

Peer Financial Consultants are trained undergraduate peer leaders who understand firsthand what it is like to be a student at the University of South Carolina. Peer Financial Consultants meet 1 on 1 with students by facilitating Money Management Consultations to discuss financial wellness strategies such as basic budgeting, credit, and student loan repayment, in order to co-create a plan to maximize the student's potential for financial success.

Eligibility

To be considered, you must meet these minimum requirements:

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of South Carolina – Columbia
  • Have completed one semester at the University of South Carolina - Columbia by your start date
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Have a desire to help your fellow students with their personal finances

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead 1-on-1 appointments (Money Management Consultations) with students to promote positive financial behaviors
  • Assist with money management outreach events, including but not limited to America Saves Week, Money $mart Week, Healthy Carolina Farmers Market, and Study Abroad Fairs
  • Maintain confidential student records
  • Attend and participate in all required trainings & biweekly staff meetings, including the SSC Peer Leader training cohort during the first semester of employment
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Financial Literacy

Breakdown of Hours

  • Work a minimum of 10 hours per week
  • 8 - 10 hours: Money Management Consultations
  • 1 hour: cohort (first time peer leaders only)
  • 1 hour: biweekly staff meeting
