Staying on top of deadlines is critical to student success. This list of Student Success Center-sponsored events and workshops can help you stay inspired and informed all year long.

March 2019

March 3 thru 19 - Peer Leader Information Sessions

Apply to be a Peer Leader in the Student Success Center! 

Through peer leadership, students can help other undergraduate students engage in goal-setting and skill development, personal transition to the university setting and effective decision-making.

These are paid leadership positions!

Positions Available:

  • Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader
  • SLA Facilitator
  • Peer Consultant
  • Peer Tutor
  • Peer Writing & Communications Tutor
  • Peer Financial Consultant

Location: all info sessions will take place in RHUU 302

March 5 - Mindset for Success Workshop

Students respond to challenges, setbacks, or constructive feedback in different ways and this is primarily because of their mindset on their growth. This workshop will have students look at their goals and role models to understand and plan for how much work and effort it takes to succeed, and how academic ability is not static, but rather a product of their time, effort, and interest in the goals they set for themselves.

Location: Student Success Center Conference Room, Thomas Cooper Library - Mezzanine Level

March 19 - Budgeting 101

Are you interested in setting financial goals but unsure where to start? Learn how to develop a budget and get tips for long-term budget maintenance.

Location: Student Success Center Conference Room, Thomas Cooper Library - Mezzanine Level

March 26 - Portfolio Pop-Up! (for English 101 + 102 Students)

English papers stressing you out? We've got you covered. Drop by to get writing help from our experienced tutors! 

Free pizza, refreshments, and giveaways!

Location: Peer Writing & Communications Lab, Sims at Women's Quad Room S109

When: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

No appointment necessary. You can swing by for some quick advice or write all night!

March 26 - How to Make the Most Out of Your Money (Money Smart Week Event)

Money Smart Week Event!

Talk with your Money Management Program representative about financial-based apps, coupon hacks, and more!

Come meet the Peer Financial Consultants (PFC) and learn about the Money Management Lab. Insomnia cookies will be provided!

Paint a piggy bank and learn about how to be smart with your money!

April 2 - Start Smart Salary Negotiation Workshop (Money Smart Week Event)

Combat the gender wage gap by approaching the job market armed with the knowledge and skills to (1) negotiate salaries and benefits and (2) receive fair and realistic compensation.

April 3 - Breaking Down Student Loan Repayment (Money Smart Week Event)

April 4 - "Pie" for a Purpose: Midlands Heart Walk Fundraising Event

"Pie" for a Purpose! Student Success Center, Midlands Heart Walk Fundraising Event

Donate $5 to pie Scott McDonald or another willing SSC staff member! All donations will go directly to the 2019 Midlands Hear Walk in support of the Student Success Center's Heart2Heart Team.

April 17 - SophoMORE Halfway There Celebration

SophoMORE Halfway There Celebration!

Make memories with the Class of 2021 Photo Booth! Enjoy free food, music, and walk away with a keepsake photograph! The first 200 SophoMORES will receive a Class of 2021 garnet and black tassel!

April 22 - Preparing for Exams Workshop

Students will build a practical study plan for their final exams by exploring personal study strategies and practicing how to break exam materials down into smaller study units.
