Chonnam can accommodate students in a university residence hall. Students are strongly encouraged to live in university housing during their stay in order to be fully integrated in the campus community. Students are automatically reserved a space when they complete their Chonnam application.

The fall semester runs from late-August through December, and the spring semester runs from late-February to June. UofSC students can attend Chonnam during the fall semester, spring semester or academic year.

Chonnam holds an orientation session for all incoming exchange students which takes place the first week of classes. An airport-pickup service is also available. Additionally, adjusting to a new cultural environment can be exciting but challenging at the same time. New international students at Chonnam National University often have a lot of questions and concerns during their first weeks on campus. The International Buddy Program was created to ease this transition, by pairing up new incoming exchange students with current CNU students to help them.

Students who attend Chonnam for a semester or academic year are required to apply for a D-2 student visa at a Korean Embassy or Consulate. Upon arrival in Korea, students are required to apply for an Alien Registration Card.
