Students on exchange pay in-state tuition directly to UofSC. All housing, food, and personal expenses are paid by the student in Hong Kong. While costs at CUHK campus are comparable to UofSC, Hong Kong is an expensive city and students should plan accordingly, especially if they plan to travel or frequently go into downtown Hong Kong.

Students typically earn 12-15 USC credit hours per semester. Instruction at CUHK is typically lecture-based and requires students to study independently outside of class. USC students will have the option to take up to 6 credits of either Cantonese or Putonghua language course at 4 different levels. To see courses UofSC students have taken at this university, please reference the Registrar's Course Equivalency Table

CUHK provides business and governmental field trips, along with a full day sight-seeing excursion of Hong Kong. CUHK offers over 200 student clubs, such as photography, kung fu, debate, and the International Club. CUHK offers extensive sports facilities on-campus, including an Olympic-sized swimming pool, three gyms, 14 tennis courts, and more. CUHK also offers a "Buddy Program", which matches exchange students with locals to share cultural knowledge and understanding.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Study Abroad Office for more details.

Accommodation in an on-campus dormitory is guaranteed to all exchange students at CUHK. All rooms are double or triple occupancy (no single rooms are available), and may include a local student who has expressed interest in an international roommate. Dormitories at CUHK cost approximately 5800 HK dollars per semester. There are student cafeterias on-campus and dormitories have common kitchens.

CUHK operates on an academic calendar similar to that of the United States. Fall classes begin in early September and end in mid-December, with exams lasting until early January. Spring semester classes begin in early-January and end in late May. UofSC IB students will attend CUHK during the spring semester.

Upon arrival, CUHK coordinates an orientation for all incoming exchange students. The orientation will include check-in for the dormitories, and will cover practical information about CUHK services, course registration, academic details, and a city tour, among other welcome events.

All exchange students must apply for a HK student visa before arriving in Hong Kong. Students should apply approximately two months prior to their arrival in Hong Kong. Students apply directly to the Office of Academic Links at CUHK. Students wishing to travel into mainland China should also apply for a Chinese visa prior to departure.
