UofSC's exchange program in Lima, Peru is designed to expose American students to Peruvian language, life, and culture. A city of 9 million people, Lima offers UofSC students the opportunity to experience South American culture in a cosmopolitan setting. The program is located at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú-Lima (PUCP-Lima). PUCP-Lima has approximately 18,700 students and is the best-ranked university in Peru. The campus is located in the neighborhood of San Miguel, close to downtown Lima, within walking distance of the Plaza San Miguel and the Parque de las Leyendas (Lima's zoo). The campus provides its students with access to libraries, wifi, athletic centers, and health services.

Students may also opt to enroll in PUCP-Lima's Spanish Immersion Program, which is offered for one month before the semester begins. Students will all be required to take a Spanish language placement test.

Lima is a major world city, and therefore students should prepare themselves for a higher cost of living as compared to other locations in Latin America. Students pay in-state tuition and fees to UofSC, and should plan to pay between $500- $750/month for rent, meals, personal expenses, and school supplies. Students must also pay $25 to registration fee to PUCP-Lima.

Students typically earn 12-15 credit hours per semester. In addition, PUCP-Lima offers a month-long pre-term intensive Spanish course prior to the start of each semester. This course is offered to exchange students at an additional cost. Course registration occurs on-site wihin the first week of class.

The program does not offer organized excursions, but students do have the opportunity for individual travel. The International Office does organize a buddy program for exchange students, and students can participate in local student organizations such as theater and Peruvian cultural organizations. PUCP-Lima also offers students the opportunity to get involved in a number of different sports on campus.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Study Abroad Office for more details. Students will be required to submit proof of health insurance to PUCP-Lima prior to arrival.

 Exchange students at PUCP-Lima are placed in homestays  with local Peruvian families, or in a student residence if space is available. Students will have individual or shared rooms, pending space available. Prices range from approximately $350 to $600 per month. Homestay applications are available on the PUCP-Lima application form. Students not assigned to homestays or student residences are responsible for securing independent housing. Information about possible options will be sent to the student following their application with PUC.

 UofSC students can attend PUCP-Lima for the spring semester. PUCP-Lima spring semester is March- early July, with the optional pre-term intensive language starting in early February. 

 Students must plan to arrive at PUCP-Lima one week before classes start in order to attend the exchange student orientation. Students may also opt to participate in the month-long pre-term intensive language program at an extra cost.

Students who attend PUCP-Lima for a semester are required to obtain a tourist visa upon their arrival in Peru. Students will then need to change their visa status at the Migrations Office in Lima. The PUCP-Lima office will provide students with the official documents needed, but all documents (such as certifications of financial support) must be translated into Spanish.
