Founded in 1989 by the Scottish Community in Argentina and inspired by the pedagogical system of the liberal arts colleges, the Universidad de San Andrés is a privately‐owned, not for profit institution with a complete academic offering in various fields. Its mission is to build an academic community of professors, students and alumni motivated by the search for truth and contributing to progress in Argentina and to the well‐being of its citizens.

With more than 2,500 students enrolled, Universidad de San Andrés provides the possibility of studying with professors who conduct cutting‐edge research and were trained at some of the best universities in the world. It is one of the few universities in Argentina with a large, full‐time faculty who hold regular office‐hours and provide personal attention to answer student questions and concerns. Most faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees from international universities, and a majority have had experience teaching abroad. The university’s main facilities are set on a picturesque and secure campus, just forty‐five minutes from downtown Buenos Aires.

Argentina is an affordable place to study abroad in due to the strong dollar to peso exchange rate. Students are responsible for all of their extra personal expenses including books, local transportation, entertainment, etc. budgeting around $1500-$3000 a semester. The actual amount needed will vary depending on personal spending habits.

It is recommended undergraduate students enroll in 3 or 4 courses per semester. Students will be sent a final list of available courses approximately one month prior to the start of the semester. Students will enroll online approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Students can sign up during orientation to participate in a package of cultural activities including city tour, trip to the Delta, graffiti tour, tango activity, etc. Exchange students are invited to participate at a reduced rate. 

San Andrés has a wide range of options for practicing sports. There are teams for football (soccer), basketball, field hockey, swimming, archery, volleyball and running. Exchange students are invited to train with and join these teams. Internal and external tournaments are held for these sports, as well as tennis, chess and golf. Through the Anfitriones program, international students are assigned a local San Andrés student as a “buddy”.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Study Abroad Office for more details.

 Students may choose to live in a homestay arranged by San Andres. This option includes breakfast and dinner every day (except for dinner on Saturdays). Host families are and matched with students according to their preferences. Cost is USD $900 per month. Students may elect a one‐month stay for USD $1000. There is also a very limited number of on-campus accommodation available for exchange students. For students who wish not to live in a homestay or on-campus, San Andres can provide information and resources for securing independing housing in the city. 

International Business students are required to study abroad in the spring semester. The dates of the academic calendar at San Andres is from March through July.

Students must participate in the two-day mandatory orientation which takes place the Thursday and Friday before classes start. It includes a Spanish evaluation as well as first steps to obtain the student visa.

International students studying in Argentina for longer than 90 days must acquire a Student/Resident visa for their exchange period. Students should apply through the nearest Argentine consulate as soon as they have received their letter of acceptance as the visa process may take up to three months.
