The UofSC International Business exchange program in Germany is an opportunity to expose students to German life and culture as well as international business practices. The program is located in Vallendar, a small town located in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site on the banks of the Rhine. With approximately 16,000 residents, Vallendar is becoming increasingly known for its renowned institution, WHU Otto Beisheim.

A small institution with campuses in Vallendar and Dusseldorf, WHU Otto Beisheim hosts around 1,300 students annually. Exchange students will take their classes on the Vallendar campus. Although most, if not all classes are taught in English depending on the track chosen, students are offered a chance to take immersive German language classes throughout their semester-long experience.

Students should expect to spend approximately 800€-1200€ per month on living expenses. This estimate includes housing, food, transportation, textbooks/materials, German health insurance, and entertainment. 

UofSC students must take a minimum of 24 ECTS (12 credit hours) each semester while abroad. Students typically earn 30 ECTS (15 credit hours) per semester. To see courses UofSC students have taken at this university, please reference the Registrar's Course Equivalency Table

The WHU student initiative VIP (Vallendar Integration Program) supports the International Office by organizing trips and events during the welcome week, as well as throughout the semester. Among others, VIP organizes various teambuilding activities, barbecues, and pub crawls.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Study Abroad Office for more details.

Students can choose from a number of housing options, including private and WHU housing. Housing is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and is included in the application process. Students will be given support to find their apartment before arriving on campus. Students should expect to pay between 400€-600€ per month. 

At WHU Otto Beisheim, the fall semester begins in early September and concludes in mid December while the spring semester begins in early January and concludes at the end of April. UofSC IB students will attend WHU Otto Beisheim during the spring semester only. 

The International Relations Office holds various orientation programs for exchange students during Welcome Week to acclimate students to Germany, WHU students and other exchange students. 

Students who attend WHU Otto Beisheim for a semester are required to obtain a German residence permit upon arrival in Germany. You do NOT need a visa prior to departure. The International Relations Office will assist you in this matter and will inform you in detail about the process during the orientation days.
