Game Day Ideas for Watching at Home

It's finally time for Carolina football! Game days might look a bit different this year. Find out ways to make watching the Gamecocks at home just as exciting as watching in Williams-Brice Stadium.

GUYS! Football has finally returned… sort of. Yes, the Gamecocks will be taking the field this Saturday, but due to COVID-19, Williams Brice won’t see as many familiar faces. While we are all understandably disappointed, this fellow homebody is actually pretty excited. Why? Because there are so many ways to make at-home gamedays fun! This is especially helpful for you future Gamecocks who aren’t on campus yet, so here are some ideas for kicking back at kickoff!

Fort-tastic Tailgate

Who needs a stadium when you can make your own tailgate spot? This idea is especially geared to those who may not cheer for the same team as the rest of their family. (With parents who went to Florida and a twin brother at Appalachian State, the T.V. tag gets old really fast). All you need to do is grab some blankets, snacks, string lights and some fellow Gamecocks and get creative with building your own tailgate “tent.” Now you can tailgate without leaving your bedroom!

Pajama Mode = Activated

Another great thing about watching the game from home means there is no dress code. Pajamas? You got it! Garnet prom dress? You got it! Cocky onesie? You got it! (Tbh, a Cocky onesie is appropriate for any occasion). The crazier the better. As long as it’s garnet or black, anything goes!

Taco ‘Bout Some Good Snacks

One thing I love about the University of South Carolina is the mix of traditions. Almost 50% of students from this incoming year are out-of-state students, meaning any get-together at USC results in some pretty amazing table spreads. I’m from Georgia, but because of my Cincinnati-based friend, I am obsessed with Skyline Chili dip. Here’s a challenge for you: make your own gameday spread with a combo of your hometown faves and give it a southern twist! Note: sweet tea is strongly encouraged.

Ballin’ With Bingo

Inspired by the bingo games students play during Gamecock baseball season, you can download one of our three bingo boards and play along as you watch the game! As the Gamecocks take the field, be on the lookout and fill in your boxes! Once you’ve got a BINGO! Post it on your story and tag us @uofscadmissions!

Even though we’ll be a ~little~ more than six feet apart, we would love to see how you celebrate gameday. The more creative, the better! Send us your pics or tag us on the ‘gram, Facebook and Twitter, so we’re all feeling the Gamecock spirit. If you listen closely, you’ll already hear the “Sandstorm” playing.
