Summer Research Workshops and Professional Development

Summer offers opportunities to learn great information beyond classroom subject matter.  You can take advantage of workshops on technologies to quantify or expand your work or widen your own expertise.  The Office of Undergraduate Research offers a series of seminars designed to equip you with essential knowledge and best practices for maintaining a safe, respectful, and efficient work environment.  It's just one of the ways we help prepare you to navigate and thrive in any work setting, this summer or in your future career.

Research, Ethics, and Why We Should Care 

Jordan Lewis, PhD, Assistant Research Professor, Department of Biological Sciences

This workshop will provide a crash course in research ethics and give students a working understanding of how to think critically about ethical dilemmas in research. The interactive workshop will include case studies based on real-world scenarios and is designed for undergraduate student researchers who are engaged in or interested in issues at the intersection of the sciences and the humanities.

Highlighting Research on Resumes and LinkedIn

In this workshop, you will learn how to effectively craft a description of your summer undergraduate research experience for your resume. LinkedIn profiles will also be discussed, including how to share your research experience on LinkedIn and how to use LinkedIn to grow your network.

Research Posters 101

Lauren Clark, PhD, Director of Undergraduate Research

We will explore the essential components of a well-crafted abstract and research poster, and discuss strategies for making your information clear, compelling, and visually appealing. We will also share tips for presenting your research in an engaging and understandable way. This workshop will be great preparation for the Summer Research Symposium or any conference where you might be presenting.
