Collection Finding Aid
This artificial collection, as its title implies, documents the separation of Church
and State in the United States. Created by Harrell, the materials were gathered from
a variety of sources, including the Americans for Religious Liberty (ARL), the Council
on Religious Freedom, and the Americans United Research Foundation. The majority of
organizational materials are from Americans United for the Separation of Church and
State (AU) and the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty (BJC). The collection
includes Vertical Files documenting a range of issues, key individuals, and major
events all linked to the separation of church and state and chiefly date from the
early 1960s.
