Librarians Use Skills, Data to Help Faculty With Research Profiles

Identifying the most promising research topics, the right collaborators, and the best funding opportunities can have a huge impact on a scholar’s career. USC Columbia faculty can now navigate each of those decisions more effectively thanks to the library’s use of Academic Analytics, part of University Libraries’ longstanding efforts to help researchers find the best ways to support and disseminate their work.

Using the Academic Analytics database, librarians can work with faculty to locate faculty across campus who are pursuing similar lines of inquiry and have the potential to become collaborators. And they can flag award opportunities across research fields, helping faculty maximize opportunities for funding and recognition.

“We’re delighted to be able to assist faculty in exploring opportunities to raise their research profiles,” said Amie Freeman, Assistant Head of Acquisitions and Scholarly Communications. “Having librarians available to navigate Academic Analytics and provide personalized insights into how the data can be used to pursue new opportunities is an exciting step forward for the campus. We encourage faculty to reach out to us to learn more about how we can help.”

“Integrating information from Academic Analytics to help faculty find opportunities is a natural extension of the work the Libraries have done with publishing, data management, and other aspects of the research lifecycle,” notes David Banush, Dean of Libraries.  “The Library is a trusted provider of information resources; this service builds on that tradition to help USC faculty be as successful as possible in the competitive world of academic research.”

Faculty interested in exploring more about what this new service can do for them can request a consultation or reach out to digres@mailbox.sc.edu.
