Migration Process

Work Planned Actions Date Status
Pre-Migration of Dual Account User Data
  • Copy older email from local Exchange servers to the O365 cloud (No impact to user)

Dual Account User Migration
  • Moving dual account users from local servers to the O365 cloud
  • This will be performed in groups based on username (more specific dates to come)
  • Users will have to use O365 portal (portal.office.com) and use @email.sc.edu account
  • Email on mobile devices will need to connect to the O365 portal
  • Sent email will be from @email.sc.edu
  • Aliases/nickmanes will move with migration
  • Dual users will lose USC (local Exchange) calendaring and Global Address List access for approximately 1 week
  • There will be no new student email accounts created for appoximately 5 days
  • Local Exchange Fac/Staff will lose calendaring capabilities with dual account users for approximately 1 week
  • Dual account users will retain local contacts
Early March Pending
Hybrid Environment
  • Establishes a connection between local Exchange servers and the O365 cloud
  • Dual account users will regain access to local Exchange USC calendaring and Global Address List
  • Local Exchange users will regain access to dual user calendaring
  • An option will be made available to start using @mailbox.sc.edu again (process details to come)
Upon completion of migration to all dual account users Pending

  • Copying older email to the cloud (No impact to user)

Single Account User Migration
  • Move @mailbox.sc.edu account users from local exchange servers to the O365 cloud
  • This will be performed by Department/School groups

Decommission of Local Exchange Servers
  • All accounts will be cloud based with O365
