This camp will expose students to cell & marine biology, virology, environmental science, genetics, biochemistry and physics. Participants will conduct scientific experiments and explore the environment in which we live. The facilitator, professor Kiernan, has been a biology instructor for twelve years at USC Sumter. Guest presenters this year will include USC professors Austin Jenkins (Naturalist) and Mark Roberts (Marine Biologist).

Science Camp Shopping List
You may have most of this in your house already! What you do not have you will need
to order or shop for. All the below is needed to complete the experiments. The exact
amount needed for the experiment is indicated. Unfortunately, some experiments require
much less than the amount sold so you will have extra.
3 Short 9 oz. cups (less than 4 inches high - Clear Solo Cups work well
4 individual bags Sandwich-size zip-lock plastic bags (7x7)
1 tablespoon of Cream of tartar (Potassium hydrogen tartrate)
1 tablespoon of Baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate)
1 pair safety goggles
10 pairs of disposable gloves or mom’s dishwashing gloves (can be washed&reused)
1 teaspoon & 1 color Food coloring
1 full bottle for cleaning and experiments of 70% isopropyl alcohol (8oz)
4 fresh chicken eggs (unboiled)
1 bottle Distilled water (8oz)
1 bottle of vinegar (10 oz.)
1 bottle Light Corn Syrup (4oz)
2 Fresh Potatoes
1 teaspoon of Baker’s Yeast (recommend - 1 Fleischmann's Rapid Rise Instant Yeast Fast Acting 0.25 Ounce)
1 bottle of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (4oz)
6 plastic test tubes (10-15ml size) Amazon recommend - 201711020914
1 teaspoon of Liquid detergent (Palmolive or another)
1 tablespoon amount of Non-Seasoned Meat tenderizer
24 inches of String
100 Popsicle sticks
1 bottle of Elmer’s Glue (4 oz.)
1 tablespoon of Borax Powder
1 bag of Cotton (50ct)
2 Twizzlers (*only 2 strands needed)
1 container of Icing/frosting (4 oz.)
40 Small Colored Marshmallows (*not cereal marshmallows)
40 Toothpicks
1 bag of Candy Blocks - (11.5 oz.) *Lego candy blocks - *full bag needed
1 box of Fruit Roll-Ups (15 oz.)
