The students will review knowledge discovery basics concepts, techniques, tools, and applications. This course is project based and the students will develop new Wikipedia pages by reading papers in a selected domain.
Knowledge discovery is an increasing important area of research and development in information science and other non-technical domains throughout the social sciences, health, and communications. Students need to be able to manage and analyze data throughout the information lifecycle. This course is also necessary as part of restructuring our undergraduate degree requirements.
Upon request of Dr. Karami, I am returning this proposal to College Rep Sam Hastings, who has the ability to edit it. The Course Description needs to be edited to read: "Basic concepts, techniques, tools and applications of knowledge discovery."
The Course Description also needs to be changed in the Syllabus.

Jack, congratulations SLIS 434 was conditionally approved at our InDEV Committee meeting on Friday, August 26, 2016. However, a few edits must be made before full approval can be provided.
Below are the comments on SLIS 434 from the INDEV Committee. If you have any questions, just let me know.
The course has been returned to you in Academic Programs Proposal System (APPS). Since this is an existing course and you are just adding distributed learning (DL), it only needs to go to Faculty Senate for approval after INDEV. Therefore, the syllabus must be edited and placed back in APPS and electronically approved by your (1) Department chair, (2) Steve Adams, and (3) your college representative. It is a good idea to email your department chair, Steve Adams and your college representative when you submit your edited proposal so that they are aware that the proposal is coming to them once again for approval. Once your college representative approves it electronically, it will be back in the INDEV queue so I can approve and forward it to Faculty Senate.
It would be best if you could get this all done by early September so that it may move forward through the process. Again, if you have questions, just ask.
Don Jordan, Chair InDEV 2016 – 2017
Please make the following changes and then complete the process to have your course approved again at each level described in the above email.

The Justification needs to be updated regarding need for the course. The one listed of: We need this course for our undergraduate program, BSIS. does not provide proper justification.
The Syllabus lists the incorrect College name. It should be the College of Information and Communications.
Returning per David's request for minor updates.
Thank you for submitting your proposal to the Committee on Curricula & Courses. We appreciate your patience and commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.
