Our proposal to remove ARTS 400 (and ARTS 100) from the BFA programs in Art Studio beginning in Fall 2017 has already been approved. This proposal is to delete ARTS 400 from the Undergraduate Bulletin for Fall 2017 forward.
For reference, this is the text of our approved proposal to remove ARTS 100 and 400 from the BFA curricula:
ARTS 100 and ARTS 400 are 0 credit courses with no meeting times. They have historically been used as transcript notation to show that a student is enrolled in the BFA program (as opposed to the BA ARTS program). In practice, they have resulted in an increase in paperwork and confusion. We propose to eliminate them as requirements and instead focus on using the advising process to enroll students in the correct capstone courses for their BFA concentration. We expect to use the ARTS 100 and 400 courses through AY 2016-2017 (for current BFA students); we will begin phasing out their use during that year. This proposal does not change any graduation requirements for Arts Studio BFA students. Separate course deletion proposals for ARTS 100 and 400 will be filed at a later date.
