This brief memo is to provide a justification for our effort to renumber a series of courses in our undergraduate curriculum. The Department of Anthropology has undertaken a major review of our courses, which were concentrated at the 300-level, with a view to 1) making certain courses appear more welcoming to first and second year students, and 2) realigning their numbers in relation to the level of instruction in the courses. This renumbering also will enable us to seek the listing of a number of these courses as Carolina Core foundational offerings. In sum, this new renumbering is designed to make the overall Anthropology curriculum more accessible and welcoming to undergraduate students, as well as more rational in terms of student and faculty expectations. We believe that this will improve our offerings for the College, and will deliver to USC students a range of anthropology courses that would be extremely valuable for their intellectual development at a wider range of offering levels.
The Long Title -"... of American Society" and Course Description should parallel "... in contemporary USA".
