Current trends in music education and an examination of how these issues affect music teaching and learning.
This course was developed to meet the needs of graduate students in the music education program, and it is a common foundational course offered to graduate music education students at other universities. The course content will apply to students from all graduate degree levels (MME, MAT, and PhD) and emphasis areas (strings, winds/percussion, choral, and elementary general music). The course will be offered during the summer term and will satisfy an elective requirement for graduate music education students. Because many of the graduate students in the music education program concurrently teach in public schools, summer courses are most accessible for their busy schedules. Asynchronous distributed learning courses are especially beneficial to those who teach full time in the public schools.
