Executive Associate Dean of Music
University of South Carolina
Columbia, SC 29208
Dear Dr. Gowan:
On behalf of the faculty in the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management, I am writing to offer our support for the School of Music’s new course and new minor. Though MUSC 305 – Introduction to Music Industry Studies briefly touches on arts management and live music events, it does not significantly replicate any of our course offerings. The new Minor in Music Industry Studies includes one of our courses, SPTE 202 – Introduction to Live Entertainment Management. This course provides a broad foundation in entertainment management and is appropriate for inclusion in a minor focusing on the music industry. The minor adds to what we teach in our department rather than replicate our curriculum. It will benefit both our students and yours.
I am happy to offer our support and write this letter of concurrence on behalf of these new additions to your program.

I am writing to offer my letter of concurrence with regard to the proposal for the Music Industry Studies Minor. ECON 224 is designed for students who are not majoring in business. MKTG 350 offers sections that are designated for students that are not business majors and DMBS would be able to accommodate students in the proposed minor in these non-major designated sections.
