Internship for practice in elementary classrooms (grades 2-6) related to curriculum design, assessment, interactive teaching, and professional roles.
The proposed EDEL 790 course consolidates EDEL 790A, EDEL 790B, and EDEL 790C (4 credit hours each) into a single 12 hour course. The A/B/C designation was originally constructed to disaggregate students' performance across dimensions of internship performance. Viewing historical data, this disaggregation has not served its intended purpose as students have performed identically well across the three dimensions in all but a very few cases. Given the burden of creating 3 distinct courses, with roughly 5 sections across each course, each spring term, the workload is not reasonable given the historical data in students' performance. This new course is comparable to the new EDEL 490 course approved in Fall 2016. Further it is proposed to align the two initial certification programs in Elementary Education (B.A. and M.A.T programs)
Revise per ITE curriculum commitee recommendations.
Revise per suggestions offered via email from Dr. Dickey.
Goals should be changed to Learning Outcomes that must all be stated with action verbs. Suggested fix:
Upon completion of this course teacher candidates will:
3. Needs to be stated with an action verb.
5. Needs be stated with an action verb.
6. “ “
7. “ “
Also, The point values do not add up correctly (Elementary instruction is 122 not 112), which impacts the grand total and grading scale. Also recommend using EITHER points, OR percentage to indicate A-F grades.
Please submit separate course deletion proposals for EDEL 790A, EDEL 790B, and EDEL 790C if this new course is replacing them.
The learning outcomes are separated from the learning objectives. The learning outcomes are sufficient as stated.
Using points for the tasks and then percentages for the grades will potentially become more problematic than it needs to be. If the proponent would use points for both the assignments and grade distribution, this would be simpler. For example, grade does a student get for scoring 323 points? What about 246 points? And so on. Not sure this warrants returning to the proponent, just seems like less than a best choice.
Please consult Cathy Brant before resubmitting this.
Label Learning Outcomes as "Learning Outcomes"
Use action verbs; remove "understand" from any of the references to learning outcomes.
The grading scale has been adjusted appropriately to points only.
