Extension of research design and development issues with focus on writing a major research grant application.
We are in the process of changing the names of several of our methods courses. We were prompted to begin this by CEPH, our accrediting body, during our March site visit, who indicated our current course names were not always indicative of course content.
Here is the complete list of methods courses from undergraduate through doctoral level with current titles.
EPID 410 Principles of Epidemiology
EPID 700 Introduction to Epidemiology
EPID 701 Concepts and Methods in Epidemiology
EPID 741 Epidemiologic Methods Intermediate Epidemiologic Methods (submitted in a separate CCP)
EPID 800 Epidemiologic Methods II Advanced Methodological Theory in Epidemiology (submitted in a separate CCP)
EPID 801 Advanced Analytic Methods in Epidemiology
EPID 802 Epidemiologic Methods III Grant Writing for Epidemiology
We propose to change EPID 802 to Grant Writing for Epidemiologists. EPID 802 is the final methods course for doctoral students and focuses solely on grant writing. CEPH, our accrediting agency, commented that the current title provides no indication of what's actually taught in this course. We believe changing the title provides a much better description of the content taught in the course.
Pre-requisite: The current pre-requisite requires BIOS 757, which we no longer believe is esssential in order to be successful in this course. We would like to add "or permission of instructor" to allow the instructor to make exceptions.
As discussed with committee.
I am sorry that I missed the requirement for there to be at least a "tentative" schedule of meetings and topics that would equate to 14 weeks of instruction.
Since this needs to be added, please relabel "learning objectives" as "Learning Outcomes."
Please see the comments from the Graduate Council Sciences Committee. They have 2 minor changes requested.
