Note: This is a change to course delivery only.
The face-to-face version of SPTE 203 (Introduction to Event and Venue Management) is of very high interest not only to undergraduate students in the Department of Sport and Entertainment (for whom this class is a requirement), but also to undergraduate students in the Darla Moore School of Business and South Carolina Honors College. As such, the department is currently unable to teach enough face-to-face sections to meet the course demand. Providing the course online will allow the department to offer larger sections, not be bound by physical classroom space, and allow more students to complete the course. Course materials incorporate basic accessibility features, provide for appropriate learning activities, and allow for appropriate interaction. There are also several benefits of distributed delivery. This asynchronous online course also provides a selection for undergraduate students who may be studying at a distance, working, or whose schedules conflict with other classes. This will also assist in classroom scheduling conflicts due to limited space.
change to course delivery only - effective term = Spring 2018
The Instructional Development Committee is requesting some revisions to the proposal.
Comments for SPTE 203:
Regarding InDev Rubric item#:
3 – Please state what, if any, prerequisites are required
7 – Please add a statement that all materials will comply with copyright rules.
8b – Please include your feedback/turnaround time on assignments
9b – Add a statement about rubrics
9c – How will quizzes & tests be secured?
The statement "A minimum of approximately 60 hours (3,600 minutes)" is under instructional time. This is potentially misleading and confusing from the 6,300 suggested in the modules.
There's some accidental redundancy (probably from cut and paste) that needs to be cleared up.
Additionally, it was brought up in the meeting that the original intent was for the proposal to be a “Change in Course Delivery” only, which would alter the approval course in APPS; however, it was submitted as “Change to Existing Course (CCP).” Whichever Course Action is the actual intent should be selected when the proposal is resubmitted. Finally, “Proposed Effective Term” needs to be changed to Fall 2018.
