**Major Prerequisites**

The following courses fulfill some of the general education requirements and some cognates and must be completed for a major in with a grade of "C" or higher for a B.S. degree in physics:

PHYS 199 - Measurement and Analysis in Physics

PHYS 206 - Principles of Physics I or

PHYS 211 - Essentials of Physics I

PHYS 207 - Principles of Physics II or

PHYS 212 - Essentials of Physics II

PHYS 306 - Principles of Physics III

MATH 141 - Calculus I

MATH 142 - Calculus II

MATH 241 - Vector Calculus

MATH 242 - Elementary Differential Equations, or

MATH 520 - Ordinary Differential Equations

Two math courses 500 level and above (selected with advisor)

Six additional hours of Mathematics courses from the following:

(Note: No more than 3 hours can come from MATH 300, or MATH 344)

MATH 300 - Transition to Advanced Mathematics

MATH 344 - Applied Linear Algebra

MATH 500-level and above (selected with advisor)

CHEM 111 - General Chemistry I

CHEM 112 - General Chemistry II

CSCE 145 - Algorithmic Design I

Note:

A grade of C or higher is required in all physics, mathematics, and engineering courses.

**Transfer Requirements**

In addition to the minimum University and College of Arts and Sciences requirements, a student seeking to transfer to the physics major from another program within the University, or from another accredited college or university, is required to have earned a grade of “C” or higher in MATH 141.

Note: An AP or IB exam score that provides credit for MATH 141 also satisfies this requirement.
