Occasionally, special topics courses offered by various academic departments and approved by Women’s and Gender Studies may also be applied to the minor.
No more than one Independent Study course (3 hours) may be applied to the minor. Independent Study requires the approval of the Director of Women’s and Gender Studies.

We proposed deletion of WGST 111, which was approved by the Faculty Senate fall 2016. We submitted the resulting changes to the major and minor at the same time that we submitted the deletion. We are resubmitting as separate proposals, as requested.
The deletion of 111 necessitates a change in the Minor Requirements from 3 Core Courses courses (9 hours) to 2 Core Courses (6 hours). We must also change the number of Additional Course Hours from 9 to 12 hours to maintain the 18 required hours for the minor.
In addition, we would like to simplify the language of the Additional Courses for the Minor. Rather than a list of allowable classes, which seems prescriptive, we would rather note the required number of hours and the appropriate level of courses.
The Proposal to Delete WGST 111 has already been addressed by Chris Nesmith of Palmetto College, and approved by the Faculty Senate.
Just as submitting multiple actions in a single proposal is problematic, so is submitting multiple proposals for the same program. Neither of us has any control over which proposal would be processed first, and if they arrive in the wrong order you won't end up with the programs being represented the way you intend.
Please combine the two proposals for the Minor into a single proposal. (You will soon receive a similar message asking you to combine the two proposals to modify the BA in WGST.)
This should be simple edit - a couple copy-paste.
I do have one substantive question. In your shortening of the description of courses accepted under "Additional Hours", you appear to be removing ENGL 495 and POLI 368 as acceptable courses (I don't see a WGST cross-listing for either.) I raise this to be certain it was intentional, or to provide you with an opportunity to revise the wording as you prepare the combined proposal for resubmission.
Thank you for submitting your proposal to the Committee on Curricula & Courses. We are moving your proposal forward to the Faculty Senate. We appreciate your patience and commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.
Edits to the minor include deleting WGST 111 and editing language/options to keep the minor at 18 credit hours.
No BOT, CHE or SACS required.
