Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Future Planning Group

The Future Planning Group is charged with examining the potential impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on UofSC past the 2020 summer session and making policy recommendations concerning the safe return of our students and employees to campus and mitigating any ongoing risks.

Formed by President Bob Caslen, the group is comprised of faculty and staff representing all facets of university operations. Because the unprecedented global health crisis could have far-reaching effects on campus well-being, student enrollment, academics, research, finances and university services, an interdisciplinary approach drawing on expertise from across campus is essential.

The group also closely coordinates with student leaders, Faculty Senate and state and local officials to ensure stakeholders are involved in our discussions and well informed as recommendations are developed.

The group’s work and recommendations are guided by four core principles:

  • protecting the health, safety and welfare of our employees and students;
  • limiting and mitigating the spread of the virus in our community;
  • maintaining academic and research excellence; and
  • sustaining core university functions.

Future Planning Group Leadership
