Active Minds
Active Minds at USC is a student run non-profit organization that promotes mental health awareness, education, and advocacy. The group is designed to utilize peer outreach in conjunction with the counseling center to increase students’ awareness of mental health issues and symptoms of mental illness, provide information about available resources, encourage students to seek help as soon as help is needed, and to serve as a liaison between students and the mental health community. Alpha Epsilon Delta
AED is a national pre-health honor society with an on-campus chapter. The Alpha Chapter is the oldest pre-health honor society here at the University of South Carolina and the second oldest AED chapter in the nation (established in 1929). It is designed for distinguished students who wish to pursue a career in one of the health fields. AED hosts bi-weekly meetings in which physicians, dentists, veterinarians, and other health professionals come and speak to students on various topics. AED also conducts medical student discussion panels and hosts two annual physician mixers for our members. Being in AED exposes pre-professional health students to many aspects of various health professions and also offers opportunities of getting potentially involved with free medical clinics, physician shadowing, volunteer opportunities, networking and trips to professional schools. Our mentoring program is set up to give advice to our first year members on topics such as undergraduate academic success and resume building. Joining AED is a great opportunity to improve campus involvement, leadership skills and personal/ professional development.

Black Box
Black Box is a multicultural theatre ensemble that aims to provide an artistic outlet that expresses the influence of African American writers, actors, and artists of the past, present, and future. Furthermore, it intends to manifest the idea of a "New Romanticism." That is to examine and display art centered on issues impacting black communities (sexism, colorism, addiction, violence, homophobia, etc.) without glorifying these problems. In doing so it will combat three ideas sometimes displayed in modern theatre: art is for art's sake (the idea that art is not political); art is only about inner angst; and middle class values and images are the only positive representations.

Off-Off Broadway
Off-Off Broadway is the musical theater club. We produce at least two shows each year, a musical revue in the fall, and a full-length musical in the spring. All of the production work and performing is done by students, but you do not have to be a member of the club in order to audition for a show. We go as a group to see local musical productions and watch movies. We're also looking into finding performance outlets outside of USC, such as community events or competitions.

ONE Carolina Chapter
ONE is looking for interested students willing to join and campaign/advocate for this nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to eliminate poverty and preventable diseases, particularly in Africa, Asia and the United States. Our mission at ONE as students is to advocate for lifesaving foreign assistance and policies by rallying, calling, writing, signing petitions, tweeting, posting, sharing, recruiting, and campaigning to eradicate extreme poverty. This semester were taking a look at the Trillion Dollar scandal where we discovered each year, more than a trillion dollars is siphoned out of developing countries through a corrupt web of activity that includes shady deals for natural resources, the use of phantom firms, money laundering, and illegal tax evasion. ONE estimates that the lives of more than one million children could be saved if governments act to end the corporate and political secrecy that allows corruption and criminality to thrive. With the help of six million ONE members advocating for this fight to end poverty, we are hoping to get Jack Lew to add this to his agenda at the G20 this coming November. Throughout the semester we have three challenges we will try to succeed in. Visit one.org, www.facebook.com/columbiasONE, and www.twitter.com/ONE_USC for more information.

Operation Smile at USC
Because we are back on campus, the Operation Smile club is aimed at raising awareness of this organization! OpSmile travels all over the globe to fix cleft lips and palates, as well as other deformities and burns. Education is also a huge part of what they promote for basic hygiene and dental care so after the surgeries, children and adults are able to lead healthier lives.

Project Dance
Project Dance is a student-run organization which meets once a week for an hour and a half. We focus on contemporary, jazz, and hip hop, but have featured classes in ballet and lyrical. One or two members are chosen to lead a class in their style of choice each week. This can (but is not required to) include warm-up, stretching, across-the-floors, and a combination. Project Dance also offers a team that performs at charity and showcase events in the USC community. Participation in this team requires additional commitment and rehearsal time. Real Food Challenge @ USC
We will be working with USC's food provider, Sodexo, first, to assess how much of our food right now is considered Real using the Real Food Calculator tool. Students Helping Honduras at the University of South Carolina
Students Helping Honduras at USC is a chapter of the non-profit, Students Helping Honduras, that was started just in 2007 by a college student. SHH is a small but growing effort to help make Honduras, the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, a better place to live by empowering locals to change their communities and their future. SHH is 100% Honduran-run; their focus is on empowerment and providing the resources for locals to change their own communities. Students from across the country travel to Honduras with SHH to work alongside these locals to help build schools in remote villages. Along the way, volunteers develop relationships with the children, work on their Spanish and soccer skills, learn how to salsa dance, experience daily Honduran life by living in a village for the week, play with children in SHH's Children's Homes, and make memories that change one's perspective. USC's chapter of SHH started just in the Spring 2013 semester and since has grown continuously. Our chapter fundraises throughout the year and sends students on trips over winter and spring breaks to help change Honduras.
