Biography: 
Sophie Farthing teaches freshman English at the University of South Carolina where she is writing a dissertation on “found family” communities in the fiction of contemporary American women writers. She has taught themed courses on Isolation in American Film and Fiction (ENGL 101) and Writing About Writing (ENGL 102). She is currently an Assistant Director of the First-Year English Program where she promotes process pedagogy and student-centric learning environments. Her M.A. thesis explores American poet Anne Bradstreet’s role in the vibrant transatlantic communities of Puritan women writers during the late 16th and early-to-mid 17th centuries. Other interests include fanfiction studies, Christianity and American religious trauma, walking her lion-sized poodle named Frances, and eating cake.
