Bio
Dr. Minghi joined the University of South Carolina faculty in 1973, retired in 2001, and continues to live in Columbia with his wife, Lee, whom he married while both were graduate students. He received his PhD from the University of Washington in 1962 and served on the faculties of the University of Connecticut (3 years) and the University of British Columbia (9 years). Dr. Minghi served as department chair for his first 17 years at the University of South Carolina and it was under his chairmanship during the mid-1980’s that the department was awarded approval for the Geography PhD program. During his final decade at South Carolina, he directed 5 doctoral students to completion. In retirement he has retained his interest in political geography, writing chapters and editing books and playing a leading role in several Italian conferences on the theme of borderscapes. For the past two decades Dr. Minghi gives 8 hours of lectures in the Fall on international boundaries in the MA program on Geopolitics, Territory and Security at King’s College, London.
