In order to promote full participation and engagement, each session will have a limited number of attendees. Therefore, we encourage you to register early.
While participants are encouraged to take advantage of these sessions when they are hosted by the College, individuals can also sign up for sessions on their own or participate in sessions hosted by their department or program. Those who take advantage of these alternative options will still be eligible to appear in the CAS “Diversity Advocate” directory and to apply for the decal, pending proof of completion. All sessions must be at least 1.5 hours in length.
All sessions will be hosted via the Zoom platform. To participate in any of the Spring 2022 sessions, register using the form provided below.

Director, the Collaborative on Race
This workshop will be composed of mini-lectures, small and large group discussions and brief reflections. Participants with little to no previous understanding of race and racism should expect to glean some new knowledge and terminology. Those with more experience with the topics will be offered a refresher and a chance to share openly (if comfortable) their own experiences and education. This will all be conducted in a space where all are welcome as we begin our journey toward being a more inclusive and welcoming community. In this session, participants will engage in break-out discussion groups and interactive activities focused on identifying and addressing structural racism and implicit bias in the workplace.
Building Awareness and Improving Accessibility

This session will help faculty and staff increase their understanding of accessibility issues and learn how they can better support those in our community who have disabilities. It will include information on the services provided by UofSC, understanding the Americans with Disabilities Act and ways of making classrooms and workspaces more inclusive. This workshop will focus on enhancing the academic experience for students with disabilities through the provision of information, resources, and accessibility guidance for working through some of the barriers that can arise in the higher education setting.

Workshop: Anti-racial and Ethnic Discrimination Policies
February 11, 2022, 9–11 a.m.
Assistant Director of Training and Development and Deputy Title IX Coordinator
This workshop will highlight policies and procedures in relation to discrimination on the basis of race or ethnicity at the University of South Carolina. The University does not discriminate in educational or employment opportunities on the basis of race, sex, gender, gender identity, transgender status, age, color, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, genetics, protected veteran status, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions. Attendees will receive information and resources to combat these forms of discrimination.
Workshop: GreenZone Ally Training
February 25, 2022 9–11 a.m.
This program trains faculty and staff on the unique issues faced by military-affiliated students and identifies resources available to assist them. Participants who complete the training program will receive a Green Zone Ally postcard to display in their office.
Workshop: Trans Advocacy Training
March 4, 2022 9–11 a.m.
The Trans Advocacy Workshop is designed to further examine issues of sexual identity and gender expression. This workshop narrowly focuses on transgender identities, issues and experiences. All interested participants in the Trans Advocacy Workshop are required to complete the LGBT Safe Zone Workshop before registering for the session.
