Scholarships

We are pleased to offer our undergraduate students several scholarship opportunities that are available due to the generosity of a number of benefactors.

Available Scholarships

About

This scholarship was established to honor T. Moffatt Burriss, a decorated World War II veteran from South Carolina.  This award will be given to eligible students based on financial need and academic merit.

Award/Prize

One award in the amount of $2,000 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Eligibility

This award will be given to political science or international studies majors based on the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Each applicant is a freshman during the 2022-2023 year
  2. Each applicant demonstrates a financial need; and
  3. Each applicant will return as a full-time student for the 2022 fall semester. 

First priority will be given to a student from the Marlboro Academy in Bennettsville, SC.  Second priority will be given to a student from Oakridge School in Arlington, Texas.  If no student from these designated high schools is available and no freshmen have applied, the scholarship may be awarded to a sophomore or junior meeting the criteria listed above. This award may be renewable if the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA.

About

This scholarship was established in the honor of Mary Anne Fitzpatrick, inaugural dean of the combined College of Arts & Sciences.  This award will be given to eligible students based on financial need and academic merit.

Award/Prize

One award in the amount of $1,500 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Eligibility

This award will be given to political science or international studies majors based on academic excellence and demonstrated financial need.  A student should have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their political science courses and/or their cumulative GPA.  Recipients of this award may only receive it once (it is non-renewable.)

About

This scholarship was established in the honor of Paul William Blackstock. This award will be given to eligible students based on financial need and academic merit.

Award/Prize

One award in the amount of $750 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Eligibility

This award will be given to a full-time student with a major in international studies majors and will be based on academic excellence as well as demonstrated financial need.  A student should have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their political science courses and/or their cumulative GPA.  This award may be renewable if a recipient maintains at least a 3.0 GPA.

This scholarship was established in the honor of Sara Najjar-Wilson.  This award will be given to eligible students based on financial need and academic merit. 

Award/Prize

One award in the amount of $700 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Eligibility

This award will be given to international studies majors in the Department of Political Science based on academic excellence and demonstrated financial need.  A student should have at least a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their major courses and/or their cumulative GPA. Recipients of this award may only receive it once (it is non-renewable.)

About

This scholarship was established in the honor of Michael P. Arthur.  This award will be given to eligible students based on financial need and academic merit.

Award/Prize

One award in the amount of $300 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Eligibility

This award will be given to political science and international studies majors in the Department of Political Science based on academic excellence and demonstrated financial need.  Recipients of this award may only receive it once (it is non-renewable.)
